Artist Bio/ Statement:

At a very early age my moniker was “Artist”….

Two years of Conceptual and Minimalist Art emersion at Hartford Art School / U of H, led to three years at Parsons School of Design/New School for Social Research from which I received a BFA in Environmental Design. During Design School, I “worked” with a Color Forecaster in the Fashion Industry. This experience influenced my direction as a Colors and Materials specialist for Contract and Residential Interior Design projects, nationally and internationally.

I have lived and traveled far and wide, and I’ve acquired a wide range of interests, experiences and skills. Naturally, as time progresses, it is easier and easier to see how “my life pieces” fit together in the form of the ART that I produce.

Ultimately, I like to describe my ART as Iconographic. It basically identifies, describes or supports “conventional” meanings visually. I achieve this by using different types of images, symbolic references or cultural motifs which represent people, places and things much like a portrait or group of portraits can, while using a multitude of materials, natural or man made, to support themes of history, seasonal change, nature, color and repetition.

For 2 years, I have had a studio at GaGa, the Civil War era Dye Factory complex located in Garnerville, NY.
I have shown my work throughout the North East and the greater NY Metropolitan area at:
The Carriage Barn Arts Center, New Canaan, CT
The Dianne Shullenberger Gallery, Jericho, VT (solo)
The Dominican College, Orangeburg, NY
The Greenwich Arts Council, Greenwich, CT
The Hopper House, Nyack, NY
The KMA Members @ Katonah Library, Katonah, NY
The Katonah Art and Frame Shoppe, Katonah, NY (solo)
The Katonah Paint and Hardware Store Windows /
Women Promoting Women, Katonah, NY (solo)
The North County Studio Workshop Show, Bennington, VT
The Nyack Art Walk, Nyack, NY
The Paula Barr Gallery, Chelsea, NYC (solo)

It is with great pleasure that I share…
one of my favorite series of ART, at one of my favorite places;
CAFÉ BARCEL,
with you…

Diane Churchill is a painter living in Nyack with a studio at the Garnerville Arts Center in Haverstraw, NY. She has exhibited widely in Rockland and New York City, with occasional forays into other parts of the world. She has an ongoing association with Soho 20/Chelsea Gallery in Manhattan.

She has had residencies in Spain at Fundacion Valparaiso and France at Foundation Karolyi, and she has received fellowships from Wellesley College, the Council on Basic Education, and New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Her primary inspiration is color. Deep red is mined for its correlation to passion. Gold is a reference to the celestial world. Line and shape are explored for their capacities to express states of energy.
