What others say about us.

SOME of us have sworn off all things glazed and jelly-filled, but if you call a doughnut a buñuelo, as they do at Café Barcel, and make a plump, cinnamon-laced confection that belongs in the deep-fried hall of fame, well, you will probably cause more than a few former doughnut addicts to fall off the wagon.... Direct Latin Flavors With a Sweet Finish... The Bar lively and inviting, with comfortable padded stools... Café Barcel is open on Monday nights — a boon to diners who are traditionally orphaned at the start of the week.

The menu is deep in seafood with the best seller being Shrimp a la Plancha with plantains, hot and sweet pepper and garlic.. The restaurants is known for its daring beverages as evidenced by "Running with the Bulls" and "Too Hot to Handle Cider." Running With the Bulls is made from blood oranges, Sevilla St. Germain and Zardetto Prosecco . Too Hot to Handle Cider is a combination of Maker's Mark bourbon, apple cider, cinnamon clove, spices and ginger...

Café Barcel has swiftly amassed a devoted following comprised of locals and regional foodies alike. The buzz surrounding this modern Spanish-inspired bistro has intensified... stylish interior... warm smile of a hostess... a gracious waiter... a basket of rustic, crusty bread together with a housemade butter infused with fresh garlic, sesame and poppy seeds... The owners, chef and staff of Café Barcel all deserve accolades for conjuring a Restaurant Week experience that was magical in every sense... that has this reviewer excited for the future and continued evolution of this Nyack gem.

Pan Seared Mozzarella Speidini with White Anchovy and Caper Sauce was outrageous — Little breads that were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, with melted mozz as a little present inside. Mmm. Like a grilled cheese that’s all grown up... Char Grilled Hanger Steak Frites, with Chimichurri Sauce and Watercress. The char on the meat was thick and crusty, and the inside of the steak was pink nd juicy. Plenty of flavor here, and the fries were terrific: crunchy on the outside and puffy on the inside.

The Latin influence permeates everything from the menu to the drink specials, the artsy atmosphere to the musical acts that play the room every Friday night.... each bite of salmon called to mind the best salmon I’ve ever had....mouthwatering cuisine...A buñuelo is a Spanish doughnut - These were not doughnuts. They were beignets. No, more than that. They were gourmet zeppoles. Let me say that again: gourmet zeppoles. If I lived closer to Nyack, I would come to Café Barcel just to feast on these treats.
